March 2-4, 2012 PYHÄ-LUOSTO REINDEER CUP
Exciting reindeer race event in Luosto. The reindeer compete in 3 categories for Finnish Champioship league and there is also a lot of other activities for the whole family.
April 14th,2012 MARTIN PILKKI Ice Fishing Event
Yearly spring ice fishing competition and the whole family's outing in Ahvenlampi pond in Luosto.
Traditiolly ovet a thousand big and small ice fishers take part in this fun competition as well as in a raffle with amazing prizes. A lot of extra activities in the area!
June 13-17, 2012 SODANKYLÄ MIDNIGHT SUN FILM FESTIVAL
The most unique event in the world! In June, movie buffs flock to the northern side of the polar circle for five days and nights to enjoy the magical midnight sun and superb movies from cinema’s greatest masters. Founded in 1986 by the Finnish directors Aki Kaurismäki, Mika Kaurismäki and Peter von Bagh, the Midnight Sun Film Festival boasts one of the most unique atmospheres of any festival in the world: top directors, up-and-coming talents, an international audience and the average person on the street come together in a sincere and warm atmosphere under the midnight sun. Without any formal restraints, the festival is best characterised by its pure love for cinema.
August 9-12, 2012 LUOSTO CLASSIC
The main guest orchestra in LuostoClassic festival 2012 will be one of the best and most known orchestra in Britain an in Europe, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Orchestra will have concerts outdoors in fell nature. Orchestras’s home base is in Manchester and it visits Finland first time.
LuostoClassic is special classical music event with a difference. There people’s values, the nature and music meet. The LuostoClassic festival brings the world’s top performers out to the Lappish nature to play for people who might not visit a concert hall otherwise. The music embraces you as you lay on a bed of heather, eating blueberries. The concert halls are venues shaped by nature – a slope of a fell, an ice age river and a deep forest pond. At the Festival Clubs the artists and the audience can meet on a personal level and enjoy themselves. At the Luosto Classic, the top performers’ classical music, nature and the intensity of the event have together created a unique experience bringing together travellers,societies and large corporations alike that share the same values.
