Suvanto Museum Village
Make a day of it and enjoy a visit to Suvanto Village by river boat. Dating back to the 17th Century this Museum Village is situated along the River Kitinen and differs from all other villages in Lapland as a result of being saved from destruction during the 2nd world war. It’s quite unique and is a valuable example of old northern Finnish wood architecture which in the past has secured the title of being the most beautiful village in the whole of Finland. Today the old schoolhouse is now the café where your lunch included in the tour cost will be served.

A smoke sauna
For sure anyone choosing cabin accommodation has their own private sauna and hotel guests are enabled to use a sauna within the building. Why therefore purchase an excursion to a sauna you may well ask? It’s really quite simple. This is the real sauna experience, dating from the very origins of the Finnish people. It has spawned it’s very own fan club, the International Smoke Sauna Club and is considered the purest style of sauna because it is disinfected by smoke during the heating. It’s true origins were as a place to give birth or even a church but the pleasure is so profound and different that it should be considered another life style experience. Here too in our setting you may enjoy the use of the bath whisk made from fresh birch twigs with leaves, and naturally jump into the adjacent lake. As they say: “don’t leave Lapland without trying it !!”.

There’s gold in them thar hills

Within our tour cost each participant will be provided with the necessary equipment and training to practise panning and is permitted to keep any gold or local gems such as Garnet or Jasper that they find. Practically everyone will be successful in their quest. Lunch is taken in a very traditional restaurant and a visit to the Mining Museum is included featuring one of the best collections of minerals and gemstones in Finland together with documents tools and other equipments of the early gold prospectors.
